Common questions

What is a reader magnet?

A free book, short story or extra that you give readers in return for joining your mailing list. It’s the most common way authors grow a list. Our guide to reader magnets covers what makes a good one.

What kind of files can I send?

An EPUB, which works on most e-readers and phones, and a PDF as well if you like. Readers choose, and there are short guides for Kindle, Apple Books and Kobo.

Do readers have to join my mailing list to get the book?

That’s up to you, and you can decide separately for each book. Make it optional and readers get the book whether or not they join; make it required and joining your list is the deal for the free book.

Which mailing list providers do you support?

Mailchimp, MailerLite, Kit, EmailOctopus, Brevo, ActiveCampaign, SendFox, Beehiiv, Klaviyo and Flodesk connect directly, and there’s a way to link almost anything else too. See them all on the integrations page.

Is Storyfinch branding removed automatically?

Not on the Free plan. Your signup pages and emails carry a small "Delivered with Storyfinch" line. Upgrade to Pro and it disappears.

Can I customise how the signup page looks?

Yes. Choose from four ready-made looks, set your own colour, and see your changes as you go before you save.
